Alexicom Tech.... giving you a voice!
Alexicom Tech's Mission
To provide everyone with a way to communicate and be understood.
When it all began.....
Before iPads and tablets, AAC devices were often large and expensive. In 2007, Alexicom Tech was inspired by a boy named Alex, who has autism. A team including his parents, Speech-Language Pathologist, and Web Developer gathered to brainstorm how to create a solution for expensive and bulky AAC devices that were confusing and often abandoned. The goal was to create an augmentative and alternative communication system that is affordable, robust, and flexible so any person could use it to communicate anywhere.
Alexicom Tech feels every person should feel good about how they communicate and to be able to express thoughts, emotions, and to build connections through social communication.
In 2008, Alexicom created the world’s first Internet-based augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). This system opened up a world of opportunity for so many people that cannot afford the standard AAC device or that want more from a device such as remote editing. Page sets were developed using research on Brown's Stages of language development, research around core vocabulary, as well as studies completed on the benefits of using real images. In addition, feedback from families and adult users confirmed the real images were more appealing and easier to understand.
There is no longer any need to purchase large bulky devices that can cost thousands of dollars. You can now have an AAC system that will work anytime and anywhere, online or offline at a fraction of the cost compared to any other systems available today. Our AAC systems meet the needs of those diagnosed with developmental delays, apraxia, Down Syndrome, Parkinson’s, strokes, traumatic brain injury, or cerebral palsy. Alexicom Tech's AAC solutions may be used as a long-term or short-term communication aid. Our systems are designed to be extremely user friendly and have the ability to grow with the user as his/her needs change.
Today, Staci Neustadt MS CCC-SLP, Speech-Language Pathologist, and Dr. Karen Suhm PhD, Web Developer, continue to spread the word about AAC. We love your feedback to continue to make our system work for all those that need a voice. Join our mission to provide everyone with a way to communicate and be understood!
